Just a little craftin.

Well, I'm supposedly a college graduate, so what else should I do with my time than spend it getting all sorts of crafty. I say "supposedly" because last week I received an email from BYU-Idaho saying I didn't fulfill all the requirements for graduation... What? So I checked out the attached transcript and found out that what they were talking about was my "Recreation Group 4" credit...whatever the heck that is. As they were processing my paperwork for graduation (a month AFTER graduation) it "came to [their] attention" that I had not completed the 3 required credits. Fortunately, I was already aware of these 3 required credits. "How?" You ask? Well, tis simple... this was the same exact class that I spent hours at the beginning of the semester getting straightened out. After 2 trips to the "Discovery Center" (I thought I was out of kindergarten, but apparently not. Even worse, the name is misleading. I thought I was going to get to glue some beads and glitter onto some paper or learn about some exotic animals at least...but all that happened was I had to wait 45 minutes to talk with some student who knew even less than I did about my requirements.)(also the worst part is it's located in the Benson, about as far away as you can get from where all my classes are located. Who decided that one?), a few emails to my "faculty adviser", and a visit to the health science department, it was decided that I could substitute Community Health for "Recreation Group 4". Probably because there are no actual class requirements listed for "Recreation Group 4." Seriously...WHAT is that? So, after filling out a substitution form (back at the Benson), I was merrily on my way to a diploma. Fast forward one ENTIRE semester... Upon receiving the email I promptly called BYU-Idaho. And by promptly I mean like 4 days after I got the email, because who really wants to talk to those guys anyway? After waiting on hold for 20 minutes, I talked to some guy who could hardly speak English (I'm pretty sure BYU-I has outsourced all of their programing and everything to India and they're just not telling us) and was informed that the only information he had was that I hadn't fulfilled those requirements. Well...at least I think that's what he said. He said he would "investigate" more and call me back. Which he did. He then informed me that my substitution form had been sent to my faculty adviser to approve...on August 12. Again...one month AFTER graduation and a whole semester after I filled it out. She hadn't signed it because she was out of town...for the whole month of August. Yippee. He said that he had resent the form to the Discovery Center for the Department Chair to approve. (Why didn't it just stay at the Discovery Center in the first place? Is it too hard to walk the paper across the hall?) So now I get to wait to see if the class that I already took and got an "A" in gets approved one month after the semester is over. Good news is that technically my faculty adviser already approved it, she just never signed the substitution sheet...because they never sent it to her... SO...that's the sitch on that. It best be gettin approved because I am not going back there. So anyway...this blog was supposed to be about these neat little aprons that I spent all day today making. It's that joyous time of life where on average I receive 3 to 1 million wedding announcements a week. Love it. I've decided weddings and their receptions really aren't my thing, so those that I do attend should consider themselves lucky to be in my presence. Those that receive a gift are even more blessed. That's all I have to say about that. With that said, two of my pretty super de duper friends got married this month. My lil Mal Pal got married August 11th. I was in Chicago, or Missouri, I'm not sure which, on that day though so I wasn't able to attend. That made me sad. But I got to see pictures and she looked super awesome. We also went to lunch today at Big J's, so that was fun. She loves John Deere stuffs, so when I saw this John Deere fabric I got the fantastic idea to make her an apron. She is pretty domestic and stuff and makes a lot of good treats, so she will probably use it. It turned out rather swell.
My ultimate fave mission companion Ms. Flava-Flave Lisa Peterson-Durrant (ok, I made up 2 of those names...and 2 hyphens, but they just seemed fitting) got married the 21st, the day after we got back from Chicago so I was able to go to that in Salt Lake. Some members from Denton, the Pedrozas, came up for it, so I was able to see them too. That was pretty neat.
My favorite part was when we sat down for the luncheon at the Lion House. It was all fancy and stuff and there were about 1 million pieces of silverware on the table. They have a little boy that is like 6 or something, who frequently doesn't get listened to because he's just at that age. Anyway, we're sitting there and the parents are talking (in Spanish, cuz that's how they do) and Josue is just staring at his place setting. Then he touches one fork, touches the other, and then in a scared whisper (who knows why he was frightened), he says, "Mama...tengo dos tenedores..." ("Mom...I have 2 forks...") Which is ignored. So a bit louder he says, "MAMA! Tengo DOOOS tenedores..." Still nothing. At which point he starts to have a small meltdown and says, "Mama...mama...mama...tengo dos tenedores tengo dos tenedores TENGO DOS TENEDOREEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!" Easily my favorite part of the whole day. Aaaannnywayy... so I went to that whole shindig and then decided after I finished Mallory's apron to make one for Flava-Fla...I mean Lisa. Who knows if she cooks, but hopefully this will make her feel all sorts of domestic anywayzzz...
